Proper eye care is a must after recovering from eye surgery. If you don’t want to end up with an injured or infected eye, take these precautions to heart.
Don’t take a shower just yet
Wait until the day after surgery before you wash your hair or take a bath. And when you do take one, be careful not to let any soap into your eye. Wear protective goggles when you can to prevent the possibility of infection.
Don’t rub your eyes
Rubbing your eyes after surgery can give you an infection. If your eyes are itchy and dry after the surgery, use the eye drops generously. The eye drops will help prevent dryness and will reduce the itchiness.
Avoid driving
Have someone else drive you around for now, or at least until you feel comfortable enough to drive. However, you’re going to need to get approval from your doctor first, WebMD says.
Don’t wear makeup
You can’t put on eye makeup for at least about a week or so because it will increase the chance of an infection. After the surgery, you’ll need to toss partly-used eye makeup to prevent an infection. It’s a precaution you should heed if you don’t want to end up going back to your doctor to treat an infection so soon after your surgery.
Don’t exercise
Give your body time to rest. Avoid exercising after the surgery. Wait it out for a few days or until your body feels ready.
Wear eye protection
Wear eye goggles for at least a month after the procedure. That’s an essential part of your eye care routine. Once you go back to exercising, those goggles can keep your eyes safe while they recover and grow stronger.
